Wrap up of Super Thursday

I can say with 100% certainty that yesterday was probably one of the most historic political days in our country’s history and we will be dealing with the aftermath for months to come.

First, let’s deal with the Supreme Court ruling on the legality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) which is better known as Obamacare. Thanks to Chief Justice John Roberts for siding with the liberal Justices on this decision the law was upheld, however, in the process, they rewrote the law to make it legal. The original writing of the law made was based on it falling under the commerce section of the constitution but the court decided that the law actually belonged under the government’s ability to tax. In the end, this law that is supposed to help around 40 million Americans receive health insurance will end up hurting that many more because of the:

  1. Increase in taxes. This bill is expected to raise taxes by approximately $600 billion. This will be paid for by us because the government has put limits on Flexible Spending Accounts and through changing itemized medical deductions to 10% of adjusted gross income instead of 7.5%.
  2. It will raise the cost of insurance for middle class America. If the insurance companies’ costs are increasing they will in the end pass the cost to the individual.
  3. Finally, the thousands of small businesses that will now be forced to offer insurance coverage to their employees or pay a penalty will struggle to stay in business.

President Obama also stated (on the record) several times that this was not a tax increase yet, when up against the Supreme Court, his Solicitor General argued that this bill was legal because it was a tax. This law was upheld based on the legality of the issue not on the common sense of it. This law was created by individuals namely, President Obama, who do not have any basic level of understanding of how the economy or business works. Unfortunately, now we are left with the government telling us how we are supposed to spend our money that we work hard for. Last time I checked, we are a democracy not a socialist state and by allowing the government to collect our money into a pool for them to run healthcare pushes us that much closer to socialism. If we look at the government’s record for running businesses like the post office and social security, we should all realize that government run healthcare is not the way to go. Now with all of this being said, we are not against the provisions that allow patients with pre-existing condition, to obtain affordable healthcare. We also believe that everyone deserves healthcare but to do it this way is not the way.

The second issue we would like to address today is the House of Representatives’ voting to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress both civilly and criminally. He is the first sitting cabinet member to be held in contempt. The more important of the two is the civil contempt because it allows the Republicans to go to a court and have a judge order the release of the documents. Unfortunately, the administration can fight this all the way to the Supreme Court, now out until October, which will continue to drag out this issue. They also held him in contempt criminally, however, this would force a U.S. Attorney to bring charges against their boss and this process would take much longer. The votes included several Democrats breaking ranks to vote across party lines. However, this vote also showed the disrespect that even more Democrats have for this issue, as they walked out and down the steps of the Capital hand-in-hand to show support for Holder. But what did they really support? They supported an administration that has stonewalled an investigation for 18 months to protect themselves because they lied about having knowledge of this operation. They walked out on Brian Terry and his family. It was the administration’s operation that put these guns out on the street which caused the death of at least two border agents. The ATF also broke every protocol that it has; they could not have done this without the approval of the DOJ. After the vote, we saw Holder issue a statement and with a very cocky attitude blamed this on politics of an election year and a witch hunt instead of safety. He failed to mention the real issue at hand. And, just to put Rev. Al Sharpton’s accusations at rest, Holder was not the victim here, as this vote was not racially motivated. Lets remember, Brian Terry is the victim.

Based on these two events, it is time we force the resignation of Eric Holder and put a stop to President Obama and his socialist beliefs. This is America and in America the government does not control how and when we spend our money. They do not pool our money together and distribute it as they see fit.  Millions of hardworking middle class Americans will now have a higher taxable income base because of the limitations that Obamacare creates.  In America, our court system also provides justice, however, with the way that Holder, the DOJ, and the administration has handled the investigation of the death of a border patrol agent (during a DOJ operation, mind you) shows that the administration cares more about protecting itself than the truth.  It is time for new change and new hope.
